Face and Neck
Tumours, injuries or scars of the face that stand out particularly due to the fact they they are not covered by clothing.
Especially elderly patients have small tumours in the face which usually do not form metastasis but destroy the surrounding tissue, so called Basal cell carcinoma (BCC). It is absolutely necessary to remove these BCC and to examine the removed tissue. The remaining defect can then be closed by local relocation of tissue within the face.
Injuries to the face often leave scars that seem most prominent. The correction of such scars is a major task of plastic surgeons. There are different ways of doing this, beginning with conservative treatment by means of wound layering or injection therapy into the wound, ranging from removal of the scar to complete movement of tissue in the region of the scar in order to make it as unobtrusive as possible. Abrading of a scar might also lead to improvement.
