Simultaneous DIEP-Flap and Lymphnode Transfer
Some patients suffer from amputation of the breast and lymphedema after breast cancer. If the breast is removed and a reconstruction is desired a special operation can be performed: a so-called chimeric DIEP-flap reconstruction. In these cases we use the traditional DIEP-flap for breast reconstruction. Lymphnodes from the lower abdomen/groin are taken together with the DIEP-flap and are simultaneously transferred to the axilla. This can help to treat the lymphedema of the arm.
